Guidelines For Recording and Uploading Videos
« on: January 28, 2012, 08:01:20 PM »

Uploading Completed Videos
Please upload your video to http://www.mediafire.com/ or dropbox , and then PM me the link. (You can upload it to another service as long as you approve it with me.)  Include in the PM the title of the song and if you want to be credited by your username or your real name (first, or first and last).

Practice, practice, practice.
Please make sure that you put a lot of effort into your piece.

Suggestions for Recording
  • Try to record more than just your fingers in the video.  Preferably have your torso and the piano/keyboard visible.
    • If you want to dress up that'd be nice, as it'd give a more professional appearance.
    • Some people may not want to show themselves which is fine, I can post screenshots over your video if you request.
  • If you need to make a few recordings before you feel you get the right one please do so.
  • Make sure you select a higher audio quality on your camera or microphone.
  • If you have an HD option on your camera please use it.
  • If you have a digital keyboard and an audio cable that can connect to your camera or microphone, then record directly from your keyboard.  This generally allows much better sound and will still be synced with the video.

I don't know if this is necessary in these forums but I might as well say it for those who are interested. Here's a pretty small list of recording equipment and software which is easy to get, affordable and really effective and relatively easy to use:

Recording / audio editing program: Audacity (open source) + LAME mp3-encoder

Recording device: Samson Go Mic Compact USB Microphone //  3,5mm Jack Cable + 1/4 inch stereo adatpor >>> for digital piano users

Video editing / audio synchronization: "10 best v.e. software" (Windows Movie Maker should do the trick for everyone with Windows on his or her computer)

Oh, and if I'm pointing out the obvious, feel free to tell me to stfu anytime you want.  ;D

Rofl that video editor list is so awful it's hilarious.

Good video editors: Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere
Mediocre video editors: Windows Movie Maker, iMovie

And that's really about it.  WMM may work for you but whenever I tried to use it before it would just crash constantly -.-

Why exactly MUST it be uploaded to mediafire? Couldn't I just send you a dropbox link and then you could just do "Save Target As" on it?

Just don't use one of those really sketchy file hosting sites with the 90 second countdowns and viagra ads everywhere.

Here's what I use to record my videos:
SeX1 mic (if acoustic), Audiobox, Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Mixcraft 5 + some camera and numerous cables/converters.

yay...
About uploading, I'll go for mediafire.

Can I use my site? It's directly linked like Dropbox.

Dropbox is fine and as long as it's not annoying or I have to wait for the download then it's okay as well.
